Crane Watching: Fascinating Bird Migration
As the days grow shorter, the post-mining landscape around Wanninchen transforms into an important resting stop for around 10,000 Eurasian cranes and other flying guests. The Heinz Sielmann Natur-Erlebniszentrum invites you to witness this breathtaking spectacle first-hand. Join us for the evening arrival of the majestic cranes as they fly overhead on their way to the roosting sites.
Nature enthusiasts of all ages can learn more about the fascinating journey and life of these migratory birds. With the help of high-quality spotting scopes and binoculars, we offer a close-up view of the roosting sites on the far shore. As wildlife is involved, every crane watching experience is unique. Before the far-reaching crane calls echo across the horizon, we highly recommend visiting our interactive exhibition and grounds to get a better understanding of Wanninchen’s interesting history. As the sun sets, the impressive descent of the birds into the safe waters of the Schlabendorfer See begins.
